Potential Roe v. Wade decision highlights wide variation in regulations regarding health coverage of abortion

A report from healthinsurance.org shows that the Affordable Care Act did not mandate or ban health insurance coverage for abortion. But states passed various rules and regulations regarding abortion coverage so that by 2022, 25 states banned or restricted health plans from covering abortion offered through health plans available in the ACA marketplaces. All but two of those states (Louisiana and Tennessee) allow coverage in cases in which a life is endangered. Many states also have exceptions permitting coverage of abortion services in cases of rape, incest or other circumstances, the report shows.
