Over the course of eight days last November, Dr. Nancy Snyderman and her team covered the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. As the first NBC News reporter on the ground, Snyderman delivered original reports for all NBC News platforms and MSNBC. For “Nightly News with Brian Williams,” she trekked deep beyond the epicenter of the devastation in Tacloban to find a group of international doctors rumored to be working in a decimated village. Once she arrived at the makeshift hospital, Snyderman engaged the doctors as they triaged patients in the most dire of circumstances with constrained resources. she also reported on the health risks of the country’s already fragile water system and serious water-borne illnesses in the wake of the storm, especially for children. On her last day, Snyderman traveled to the remote, eastern island of Homonhon to expose the logistical challenges of distributing food and medical aid to some of the smaller islands that suffered the most damage.
