Clooney Factor Puts Privacy on Stage

The story followed a report that 27 doctors, nurses and other staff members had been suspended – accused of taking an unauthorized look at actor George Clooney’s medical records at Palisades Medical Center in New Jersey after a motorcycle accident. The first story we had (reported by Chip Means) was a reaction from the hospital’s union chief. We followed up with Eric Wicklund’s story, delving into the privacy and security issues associated with electronic medical records. Did the processes and technology in place at the hospital work? What are other hospitals doing to prevent privacy breaches? We took the Clooney incident to examine the privacy, ethical and technology issues.
