Behind The Healthcare Debate,’ The Sacramento Bee

In many ways, Tony Andrade, 47, of Sacramento, is the Everyman of President Barack Obama's push for overhauling the country's health care system: working, but for low wages, without health benefits – in the company of 37 million employed Americans who are uninsured. His journey through the health care system begins on summer's morning when he finds drops of blood in his urine. His trip to the emergency room reveals he has cancer. What transpires over the course of several months, against the backdrop of the national debate over health care coverage, is a saga familiar to many other desperate Americans caught in the uncertainties of being uninsured.
