Monica Guzman's (online reporter, SeattlePI.com) presentation on "Social networking tools for reporters" for Health Journalism 2009's Multimedia Skills for Journalists panel covered just how "awesome" social media is as a newsgathering tool and as a way to connect with readers and to build a network. She covered the basics of tools such as Facebook and Twitter and how to use them. She also produced a related tip sheet, "Journalists and Social Networking" where she lays out the basics and points reporters to useful sources of additional information.
