Members responding to a snapshot salary survey at Health Journalism 2008 in March indicated that compensation varies significantly even among newspapers in the same circulation category. Salaries also varied widely among television and radio journalists. More than 100 journalists took part in the anonymous and unscientific survey.
Some highlights:
- • Among newspaper journalists, 84 percent of recent raises were 1 percent to 3 percent.
- • Half of wire service and television reporters’ most recent raises were between 4 percent and 7 percent.
- • About 30 percent of full-time staffers said they were looking for a new job.
- • Only one of the online and radio journalists said he or she was looking for a new job
Note: All surveys were completed anonymously. Some surveys were incomplete so not all could be counted.
