Laura Beil began her career in daily newspaper journalism, first at papers in Louisiana, and then at the Dallas Morning News, where she covered health, medicine and science for almost 15 years. In 2008, she started freelancing, writing mostly for magazines. Her first podcast, exploring the systemic failures that allowed a neurosurgeon with a deadly track record to keep practicing, released in 2018. Called Dr. Death, it became one of the 10 most downloaded podcasts of all time. Beil grew up in the piney woods of East Texas, but now lives outside Dallas.
