Background

The Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ) is an independent, nonprofit professional journalism association dedicated to improving public understanding of health care issues by advancing the quality, accuracy and visibility of health care journalism. We work with thousands of journalists each year to improve the quality, accuracy and visibility of health care reporting and editing internationally.

To achieve this, we conduct a range of programs and initiatives for journalists, including but not limited to:

  • Training events, conferences and workshops.
  • Fellowship programs.
  • Content creation – including articles, resources, and reports – to aid journalists in their health care coverage.

The Project

AHCJ is seeking proposals from qualified video editors to provide post-production services for approximately eleven (11) recorded conference sessions from our Health Journalism 2026 conference, taking place May 27-30 in Minneapolis. The sessions will have been professionally live-streamed and recorded; substantive content editing is not required. The contractor’s responsibilities will include:

  • Trimming the beginning and end of each recording to remove dead air.
  • Inserting provided, branded intro and outro slates.
  • Adding basic title cards to each session.
  • Performing light audio normalization to ensure consistent sound levels.
  • Conducting basic quality control.
  • Exporting the final files in .mp4 format.
  • Delivering/uploading completed videos separated by session.

Timeline

The project is expected to require approximately 20–30 total hours of post-production work. Editing will begin upon receipt of final recorded session files, branding assets, and delivery specifications, which we anticipate to be by June 8, 2026.

Final delivery of all session videos is expected within ten (10) business days of project start, subject to timely receipt of materials and feedback.

Deliverables

  • Session videos: Eleven (11) finalized, packaged conference session videos in .mp4 format delivered via shared drive . Nine (9) of the videos will be approximately 75 minutes, one (1) will be approximately 90 minutes, and one (1) will be approximately 135 minutes.
    • Each video will include trimmed start and end, branded intro and outro slates and basic title cards that will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience editing long-form recorded events (e.g., conferences, webinars, panels, journalism events nonprofit convenings).
  • Experience delivering edited conference or webinar recordings for organizations or professional events is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in professional editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver multiple long-form video files efficiently and on deadline.
  • Experience with basic audio leveling and quality control for speech-heavy programming.
  • Strong file management and export knowledge, including compression settings suitable for web and streaming platforms.
  • Ability to follow established brand guidelines and implement provided graphic assets accurately.
  • Clear communication practices and responsiveness during project timeline.
  • Access to adequate hardware and internet bandwidth to process and transfer large video files.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision while maintaining consistent quality across multiple long-form video files.
