Narrow networks or high-value networks are much in the news lately. Insurers prefer these networks because they allow them to keep costs low. Some patients appreciate the lower premiums that come with such networks, but other consumers are upset that these networks limit access to some doctors and hospitals.

The issue of network adequacy will be discussed during a briefing sponsored by the nonpartisan Alliancefor Health Reform.

Speakers include: Katherine Arbuckle, senior vice president and CFO for Ascension Health, who will discuss why Ascension participates in some networks but not others; Brian Webb, manager of health policy and legislation for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, who will outline how insurance commissioners view this trend; Paul Ginsburg, Norman Topping Chair, Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics at the University of Southern California, who will explain the implications of narrow networks; and Daniel Durham, executive vice president for policy and regulatory affairs for America’s Health Insurance Plans.
