Single-payer national health insurance is a system in which a single public agency would organize health care financing and replace private health insurers. The delivery of care would remain largely unchanged and private health insurers may have a role providing supplemental health insurance to those who wanted to purchase such coverage in addition to the insurance offered under the single-payer model.
