Bisphenol-A

  • Environmental Health

A chemical most commonly found in plastic that can leach through containers, receipts and other plastic items. It impacts human health and can increase the risk of diabetes, cancer and other health issues. Known as BPA, it is an endocrine disruptor and exposure can increase the risk of ADHD and anxiety-related disorders, childhood weight gain and obesity and impaired brain development. It is especially hazardous for infants, young children and pregnant women. In 2012 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned BPA from being used in baby bottles but it is still allowed in most other plastic products in the U.S.
