APTCs help consumers lower their monthly health insurance premium payments when buying health insurance on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) marketplaces. The tax credits are based on each consumer’s estimated annual household income and size. Consumers can choose to have all, some or none of their credits paid directly to their health insurer.
