As diabetes expands, managing it takes on urgency

A band of cities in our readership area is part of a swathe of America dubbed the “diabetes belt.” The death rates of diabetics in our area are also some of the highest in the state. I looked at the contributing factors, which included poverty, race and rural areas, and also spent the day with a nurse who helps people manage the disease in their own home.
