Members of the Washington, D.C., chapter of the Association of Health Care Journalists gathered over food and beverages on June 13 for their annual happy hour with health care communications professionals.

The sixth annual event was hosted by the National Pharmaceutical Council, with about 130 people attending. In the past the event had been held on the rooftop overlooking the White House, but for the first time the event needed to be moved indoors because of stormy weather.

Journalists and senior health communications staff were present, and met informally to network over a catered spread.

Journalists from Bloomberg BNA, The Hill, CQ Roll Call, Kaiser Health News and a host of other publications attended. The event offered an opportunity for health care reporters to get story ideas and to mingle with others in the field.

Professionals in communications came from a host of organizations, including the Personalized Medicine Coalition, AdvaMed, and the National Health Council.

The event was organized by D.C. chapter co-chairs Kimberly Leonard of the Washington Examiner, Tina Reed of FierceHealthcare, and Erin Mershon of Stat. AHCJ provided a separate table of refreshments.
