Whether you’re a veteran health care reporter, new to the subject or somewhere in between, you’re sure to find AHCJ’s new Insurance Media Guides useful in your reporting.

A project of Georgetown University’s Center on Health Insurance Reforms and supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the page AHCJ has built for you offers state-level primers on the insurance status of the residents of each state, plus the District of Columbia.

The national overview provided in the guide explains the patchwork system of health insurance coverage in the U.S., in which people’s access to services and level of financial protection — not to mention whether they have coverage at all — can vary depending on their birthplace, age, job, income, location and health status.

Check it out. And let us know what you think.

Celebrate journalistic excellence - become a judge!

The 2023 Awards for Excellence in Health Care Journalism are open and accepting entries, and AHCJ seeks the help of journalism educators and professionals to help us recognize the best health reporting in print, broadcast and online media for 2023. We are proud to say this contest is by journalists, for journalists and is not funded by any outside organizations. The vital work done by our judges goes a long way in keeping these awards so respected.

If you are interested in helping as a judge, please take a moment to visit this form and submit your response. Also, please let us know if you have any timing restrictions or are otherwise unavailable for either round.

If you are available to help as a judge, first-round entries will go to judging teams in early March and second-round in mid to late March, depending on your availability and preference.
