SUMMARY:Private Healthcare Exchanges Conference
DESCRIPTION:The Private Healthcare Exchanges conference July 16-17 in Chicago will focus on how the Affordable Care Act is changing the way insurers sell health insurance. Instead of marketing almost exclusively to employers\, the ACA has forced insurers to focus on enrolling consumers. The conference is sponsored by Employee Benefit News.

SUMMARY:Aging and Society Conference 2012
DESCRIPTION:The 2012 Aging and Society: An Interdisciplinary Conference will address a range of critically important issues and themes relating to Aging and Society. Plenary speakers include some of the leading thinkers in these areas\, as well as numerous paper\, colloquium and workshop presentations. \nAging in Society is an international conference\, a cross-disciplinary scholarly journal\, a book imprint and an online knowledge community which\, together\, set out to describe\, analyze and interpret the role of aging in society. The intellectual project seeks to examine the economic\, health\, wellness\, political and social aspects of aging in society \nParticipants are invited to submit a proposal for an in-person paper presentation\, workshop/interactive session\, poster/exhibits session\, or a jointly presented colloquium. Each stream forms a talking circle\, an informal forum for focused discussion of issues and Conference themes. For those unable to attend the Conference in person\, virtual participation is also available. \nParticipants may choose to submit written papers before or after the Conference for possible publication in the peer reviewed Aging and Society: An Interdisciplinary Journal. Virtual participants also have the option to submit papers for consideration by the Journal. All registered Conference participants receive a complimentary online subscription to the Journal when registration is finalised. This subscription is valid until one year after the Conference end-date. \nIf you would like to know more about this Conference\, bookmark the Aging and Society Conference website and return for further information and regular updates. You may also wish to subscribe to ‘Aging and Society’\, the Newsletter of the Conference and Journal. \nFor all inquiries\, please contact the Conference Secretariat. \nNov. 5 & 6\, 2012 UBC – Robson Square Vancouver\, Canada\nClick here for registration information.

SUMMARY:Application deadline: AHCJ Reporting Fellowships on Health Performance
DESCRIPTION:The AHCJ Reporting Fellowships on Health Care Performance is a yearlong program allowing journalists to pursue a significant reporting project related to the U.S. health care system. It can be local or national in scope\, or a little of both — say an aspect of the Affordable Care Act playing out in your community or subject specialty\, or the impact of particular evidence-based treatments on health outcomes\, or an analysis of a health care organization’s performance\, using public data sets. Fellows pursue the projects with the support of their newsrooms or freelance outlets\, which commit to publish or air the work. \nGuidance is provided by AHCJ fellowship leaders through customized seminars on health care systems\, conference calls and email consultations. The fellowship covers the cost of attending the seminars and AHCJ conferences\, and a project allowance is available to defray the cost of field reporting\, health data analysis and other project-related research. In addition\, each fellow will receive a $2\,500 fellowship award upon the successful completion of the project. \nExtended deadline!\nBecause of power outages and other woes brought upon the East Coast by Hurricane Sandy\, AHCJ has extended the deadline for applications by a few days. New deadline: Nov. 12 \n• Understanding and applying for the fellowship

SUMMARY:ECRI Institute’s 19th Annual Conference on the Use of Evidence in Policy and Practice
DESCRIPTION:This free conference featuring 40 nationally recognized experts will examine the evidence of “what works and why it works” in American health care. Certain systems produce better outcomes than others\, but attention seldom focuses on what elements within these health care systems produce positive change. \nThe conference’s examination of “systemness” will include:\n\nWhat is “systemness?”\nWhich elements within mature health care systems result in the best clinical outcomes?\nAre approaches taken by long-established health care systems transferable to smaller\, newer\, or less integrated systems?\nAre financial incentives alone enough to drive change?\nHow can EHRs help improve “systemness?”\nDo “transformation” units within health systems produce results?\n\nThis conference will be an important step towards encouraging healthcare systems to evaluate what is working for them and what is working for others by examining the evidence. \nThere is no fee to attend the program\, but space is limited and advance registration is required. \nFollow the conversation on twitter with #EIConf12
