Scientists disagree \n\n\nTreat aging\, not the diseases of aging\, says geneticist \n\n\nAging is not a disease: Implications for intervention \n\n\nOpinion: Aging just another disease \n\n\n\n\nRecorded Feb. 16\nWriting in the newly released “Handbook of the Philosophy of Medicine\,” medical ethicist Arthur Caplan\, Ph.D.\, head of the ethics program in the Global Institute for Public Health at New York University\, contends that there is nothing natural about aging and that it serves no purpose. \nFurther\, he says age-related changes are manifestly dysfunctional – no less so than any other disease. Others have argued that interfering with aging will lead to terrible consequences. How should science and medicine respond? \nCaplan will explore these and related ethical conundrums with moderator Liz Seegert and take questions in a webcast on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m ET. \nHow to participate\nClick here\, choose the “Enter as a Guest” option\, type in your name and click on the “Enter Room” option.  \n<!– \nA link to the webcast will appear on this page about 15 minutes before it begins.
