SUMMARY:Educating Health Professionals to Address the Social Determinants of Health
DESCRIPTION:An ad hoc committee under the auspices of the Institute of Medicine will conduct a study to explore how the education of health professionals is currently addressing the social determinants of health in and with communities. Based on these findings\, the committee will develop a framework for how the education of health professionals for better understanding the social determinants of health could be strengthened across the learning continuum. \nThe committee can consider a variety of perspectives–that could include partnerships\, finances and sustainability\, experiential learning\, continuous professional development\, faculty development\, policies\, systems\, and/or health literacy–in preparation of a brief report containing recommendations on how to strengthen health professional education in and with vulnerable communities by addressing the social determinants of health. \nThe committee will hold a meeting that is free and open to the public. \nA report will be issued at the end of the project approximately 10 months from the starting date. \nDate & time: Sept. 15\, 9 a.m. ET \nLocation:National Academy of Sciences Building (Lecture Room)2101 Constitution Avenue\, NWWashington\, DC 20418
