SUMMARY:2013 IOM Annual Meeting: The Science of Violence: Causation\, Mitigation\, and Prevention
DESCRIPTION:The science of violence will be the focus of a public symposium taking place as part of the Institute of Medicine’s 43rd annual meeting. The event will feature a keynote address by Mark Rosenberg\, president and CEO\, The Task Force for Global Health Inc. Sessions will explore the links between violence and brain disorders\, drugs\, and psychopathy; exposure to violence at home and in the media; environmental and neighborhood determinants of violence; and evidenced-based violence prevention.   \nThe symposium will run from 9:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. EDT Monday\, Oct. 21\, at the National Academy of Sciences building\, 2101 Constitution Ave.\, N.W.\, Washington\, D.C. \nThe meeting will also feature the announcement of the newly elected members to the IOM in 2013 and the presentation several awards\, including the Gustav O. Lienhard Award for outstanding achievement in improving personal health care services nationwide and the Sarnat International Prize in Mental Health for outstanding accomplishments in improving mental health. \nSee the full agenda and more information. \nThose who wish to attend should register in advance.
