SUMMARY:2012 IANA International Academy on Nutrition and Aging
DESCRIPTION:Improving and Maintaining Functions with Aging\nPhysical and cognitive disabilities are the two most important age-related declines. Nutrition is an important factor for either sarcopenia or loss of muscle with age\, and cognitive functions. On July 12 and 13 the International Academy on Nutrition and Aging will be hosted in Albuquerque. \nThe meeting will focus on maintaining function with age: physical\, cognitive\, nutrition\, brain and muscle function\, prevention of frailty with advancing age. This research and practice symposium will be organized with the the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics\, the International Academy on Nutrition and Aging and the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Researchers from around the world will present new findings in these important fields. The oral proceedings will be published in the Journal of Nutrition\, Health and Aging. \nA preliminary program (PDF) has been posted online.

SUMMARY:National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality (NAC)
DESCRIPTION:The National Advisory Council for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) will meet on July 13 at AHRQ’s offices in Rockville\, MD. The council provides advice to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary and the director of the Agency. The council consists of 21 members from the private sector and seven ex-officio members from other federal health agencies. \nThe meeting\, which is open to the public\, will begin with an update on the Agency’s initiatives and current programs from AHRQ Director Dr. Carolyn Clancy.
