Panel description: Antibiotic resistance is becoming increasingly serious with some bacteria now responding only to one or two drugs, or to none at all. What’s driving the increase? Antibiotics are unquestionably overused in human medicine – but 80 percent of the antibiotics sold in the United States each year are given to farm animals, not to humans, and many researchers feel agricultural use has an underappreciated impact on human health.
