GAO report on organ transplant programs

Media reports in 2005 and 2006 highlighted serious problems at organ transplant programs, calling attention to possible deficits in federal oversight.

The GAO looked into the agencies involved in oversight of transplant programs: the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Health Resources and Services Administration. It found that while the agencies have improved oversight, implementations issues remain. It makes recommendations of what would better ensure that problems at transplant programs are detected and corrected.
