Federal official offers perspective on health care policy and costs
Peter Orszag, director of the Congressional Budget Office, recently make a presentation to the Center for Public Health at Stanford University titled "A Federal Perspective on Health Care Policy and Costs." As he explains on his blog, he believes that too much of medical science and health policy has been largely ignoring the crucial role of expectations, beliefs, and norms.
His presentation includes an assessment of what most media coverage focuses on versus what the fiscal problem is (slide 5). He also lists areas for reform, information about the placebo effect, pathways to improving efficiency in health care and more.
