Provide a brief synopsis of the story or stories, including any significant findings.
This project, jointly produced by Kaiser Health News and NPR, profiled nine types of consumers and explored the impact Congressional health bills could have on their lives. Each example included a radio story aired on NPR, a policy "explainer" written by a KHN reporter, a video or slide show and still photos.
Judge's comments: This entry "did such a good job of finding and interviewing families from different health insurance circumstances and showed how they would be affected by bills pending in Congress," the judges said. "Unlike some other entries that had first person videos and audio ... the NPR/Kaiser series did a laudable job of offering perspective ... from those who might disagree with the pending bills. NPR/Kaiser tells it like it is, warts and all. And the multimedia components are impressive, including online stories with photos, an 'explainer' to lay out the basic facts, and audio and video presentations of each family's story."
