Provide a brief synopsis of the story or stories, including any significant findings.

This examination of the state of health care in America has a particular focus on rural communities. The mission was to explore how they are coping with being underinsured, or uninsured, and what those individuals were doing on a daily basis in order to cope. It looks at the issue from a ground-level perspective: the people working and living along the front lines of health care every day.

Judges' comments: In their synopsis of this story, the producers said they "set out to examine the state of health care in America with a particular focus on rural communities." This team more than accomplished its goal. In a beautifully shot piece, viewers travel across Appalachia with the Al-Jazeera crew and meet a number of people struggling to have health or dental needs met in the face of lack of insurance and scarcity of providers. The segment also highlights both hard working advocates as well as dedicated nurses, doctors and dentists who staff free clinics, treating the real people behind the statistics of the health care crisis in America.
