Journalists learned about the scope and structure of some of New York's school-based health centers during a field trip to two Bronx schools on Oct. 17, preceding the 2008 Urban Health Journalism Workshop. Children receive basic health care, including things like immunizations and asthma treatments, through clinics in their schools. Officials say such programs improve the health care children receive, as well as easing the burden on their parents.
