Chicago chapter: Fresh Stories Ahead for the Affordable Care Act

11/21/13     Chicago, IL

Save the date!

Join the Chicago chapter of AHCJ on Thursday, Nov. 21, for a panel discussion on "Fresh Stories Ahead for the Affordable Care Act."

Does your story list need a kick in the pants? The technical problems of HealthCare.gov have overshadowed other health reform stories since the rollout of the federal marketplace website on Oct. 1. Journalists now need to look ahead for trends and develop new story ideas. Our panel discussion will dig into three big changes that haven't received much public attention yet: pediatric dental coverage, substance abuse treatment coverage and a new type of nonprofit health insurers called CO-OPs.

Panelists:

Dr. John R. Rutkausas, D.D.S., is chief executive officer of the Chicago-based American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the nation’s foremost authority on pediatric oral health. AAPD is engaged with many public policy-related projects aimed at educating policy makers, as well as AAPD members, on improving access to qualified oral healthcare providers nationwide.

C. Scott Litch, is chief operating officer and general counsel for the Chicago-based American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Litch has three primary duties with the AAPD:  coordinating internal operations and planning; directing the AAPD’s government relations and public policy agenda; and, managing legal issues affecting the AAPD and pediatric dentistry.

Dan Lustig, vice president clinical services, Haymarket Center in Chicago, has more than 20 years of experience in the field of addictions. In 2005, he completed a research study examining the Factors Related to Changes in African American Women Participating in Substance Abuse Treatment. He currently sits on numerous committees evaluating methamphetamine and its clinical interventions statewide.

Jason Montrie is vice president of channel and network development for Land of Lincoln Health, the first and only health insurance CO-OP in Illinois. He has more than a decade of experience in insurance sales and health network development. Prior to joining Land of Lincoln Health, Jason was a senior sales executive at Humana Insurance and an assistant vice president at Euclid Insurance Company.
