For freelancers and potential freelancers, pitching is job No. 1. AHCJ knows that; that’s why every year, our annual Health Journalism conference offers Freelance PitchFest, which puts you face-to-face with some of the biggest health editors in the country. Members attending Pitchfest know they have to be ready to make a good impression in minutes — and members who won’t be attending the conference, but are busy freelancers, want to know more about pitching too.
AHCJ has your back. You’re invited to a webcast on Tuesday, March 5, at 3 p.m. EST on pitching health stories that sell.
Editors on the panel, moderated by independent journalist Maryn McKenna, will be:
- Brendan Maher, features editor, Nature
- Colleen Paretty, executive editor, WebMD
- Anna Maltby, associate health editor, Self
At this webcast, you’ll get:
- A sneak peak at their assignment processes.
- Tips on prepping your pitches before you arrive at the conference.
- Tips on what to do if your pitch isn’t strong but you know you’re right for the publication.
- Information on how to pitch outside of the conference, if you’re not scheduled for PitchFest.
The webcast will include a Q&A session.
