Washington, D.C., chapter: Meet with press officers from HHS, White House Office of Health Reform

In a rare off-the-record discussion between journalists and government press officers, the D.C. Chapter of the Association of Health Care Journalists will host a meeting with press officers of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the White House Office of Health Reform.

The discussion will include Richard Sorian, assistant secretary for public affairs at HHS; Chris Stenrud, deputy assistant secretary for public affairs at HHS; and Nick Papas, spokesman for the White House Office of Health Reform.

Press representatives from several HHS agencies - including the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Institutes of Health, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology,  and the Health Resources and Services Administration - will also be in attendance.

This meeting will be off the record. Reporters are free to ask any on-the-record questions after the meeting.

All journalists, including non-AHCJ members, are invited.

When:  Tuesday, March 8
Informal networking from 6:15-6:30 p.m. Meeting from 6:30 p.m- 7:45 p.m.

Where: Kaiser Family Foundation conference center, 1330 G St. NW (half block west of Metro Center)

Why: To improve communications between journalists and communications staff from the key federal health agencies, to help reporters learn the best ways to get data and interviews from the agencies, and to help communications professionals to better know the reporters covering their beats.
