Investigative journalism and the COVID-19 pandemic

06/30/20     ,

Webcast, Tuesday, June 30, at 2 p.m. ET

A collaboration between AHCJ and the Fund for Investigative Journalism

Investigative journalism plays a critical role in understanding the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications. Journalists are uncovering new information about how the public and private sector are responding to the epidemic – and how millions of people are affected.

The Association of Health Care Journalists and the Fund for Investigative Journalism are partnering to hold an online forum, “Covering COVID: Investigative Journalism and the COVID-19 Pandemic.” This one-hour virtual forum will include insights, lessons and tips for reporting around this complicated and fast-moving story.

The discussion will include:

  • Ivan Oransky, vice president/editorial at Medscape; AHCJ board president

  • Anu Narayanswamy, data reporter at The Washington Post; FIJ board member

  • Morgan Baskin, independent journalist covering social welfare

  • Derek Kravitz, fellow at Columbia University’s Brown Institute for Media Innovation

  • Moderator: Mark Greenblatt, senior national investigative correspondent at Scripps DC and Newsy; FIJ board president

The Fund for Investigative Journalism is providing emergency rolling grants to freelancers for stories that break new ground related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Association for Health Care Journalists provides comprehensive resources for reporters covering the pandemic.
