Covering Ebola and the next killer contagion

The Association of Health Care Journalists and the Poynter Institute invite journalists from all media, local and national to apply for this two-day, in-depth workshop.

Apply now to join leading health care experts and journalists. We will select 20 journalists from around the U.S. to take part in the workshop. A generous grant from The McCormick Foundation will pay participants' airfare, tuition and hotel expenses.

Ebola caught the headlines in 2014, and is still claiming lives in Africa. While that crisis is far from over, other devastating health concerns loom on the horizon, many of which barely make headlines. An unusually deadly flu season has been forecast for 2015. Millions of Americans are getting infections that are resistant to traditional antibiotics. Measles is surging. Chikungunya is invading. How well have these been handled by health officials? How about the media? What threats may be ahead in the new year?

Learn the real threats that so few talk about and find ways to cover them in a clear-eyed and informed way.

The workshop will begin at 9 a.m. on Jan. 21 and end at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 22.

COST:
Free. The Association of Health Care Journalists (AHCJ) and Poynter will provide tuition, basic travel expenses, hotel and most meals.

Soon after the seminar, Poynter’s NewsU will produce an online training session to help those who cannot attend the workshop learn the main lessons from our sessions.
