NY Chapter: Panel Discussion on Genetically Modified Foods

AHCJ chapter eventThe next chapter event with Science Writers in New York (SWINY) will be a panel on genetically modified organisms (GMOs).  The panel will take place 6:30-8:30 p.m. on April 9 at the New York State Health Foundation, 23rd floor of 1385 Broadway, between 37thand 38th streets. Refreshments will be available.

Foods containing ingredients with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) have been dubbed Frankenfoods. They generate scary headlines. Some consumer advocates urge a GMO ban, arguing that they're untested, unregulated, and linked to potential health problems. Others insist the answer is labelling GMO foods or ingredients so that consumers can choose — and this spurs intense lobbying efforts. And yet others assert that GMO foods can be a boon. Several countries have already barred specific GMO crops.
