Lola Butcher writes about health care policy and business issues for publications read by hospital executives, policymakers, physicians and health plan medical officers. Her regular clients include American College of Physician Executives, American College of Physicians, American College of Surgeons, the University of Kansas School of Nursing, Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Lippincott Williams & Wilkins and WC Research. Butcher’s work is regularly published in HealthLeaders, Managed Care, Biotechnology Healthcare, Oncology Times and Physician Executive. She writes for two HFMA newsletters: Patient-Friendly Billing, targeted to hospital CFOs, and Business of Caring, read by nursing executives. In addition to journalism, Butcher conducts podcast interviews of executives presenting at World Health Care Congress conferences and serves as a consultant to the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators. She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from University of MissouriColumbia School of Journalism and two master’s degrees—English and public administration—from University of Missouri-Kansas City. Butcher is a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists, the American Society of Journalists and Authors and the American Society of Business Publication Editors. The winner of many journalism awards, Butcher most recently received the 2009 Bronze Award in the “best regular department” category in a competition sponsored by the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors. She covered health care for the Kansas City Business Journal when that newspaper won a national Best-in-the-Business Award from the American Society of Business Editors and Writers.
