Free workshop focuses on covering rural America
AHCJ’s seventh Rural Health Journalism Workshop will bring journalists together with health care and policy experts who focus on the medical challenges of rural areas.
Leave with a better understanding of what’s happening – or will be happening – in rural regions, and return to work with dozens of story ideas you can pursue.
This special one-day, no-fee workshop will help you find and cover health stories in rural America.
This workshop will run from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton, with breakfast and lunch provided as part of your membership.
Spotlight Speaker
Tina Castañares
TINA CASTAÑARES, M.D., has been active in Oregon public health, primary care, public policy and philanthropy for almost 30 years. After retiring from clinical practice in 2012, she is an affiliate faculty member of the Providence Center for Health Care Ethics. Her health policy background includes membership in the original Health Services Commission, responsible for creating the pioneering prioritized list for the Oregon Health Plan. She worked as hospice medical director of The Gorge and provided palliative care consultations for Providence Connections.
She helped found One Community Health, formerly La Clínica del Cariño, a federally qualified community and migrant health center. She serves on its board of directors. For nine years she served on the board of the Northwest Health Foundation, as chairman for two years. She served as the national clinical ombudswoman for farmworker health, as well as on the board of the Migrant Clinicians Network.
