For the AHCJ Fellowship on Comparative Effectiveness Research, a select group of fellows will be chosen to spend a week in Washington, D.C., focused on understanding and reporting on medical research.
Joe Carlson, one of last year’s fellows, said the fellowship was, “Educational and practical – you don’t always get that. This was well worth my time.”
Applications are due no later than Monday, Aug. 1. Sessions will help fellows:
- Learn how to evaluate treatments and how medical decisions are made
- Determine what constitutes reliable research methodology
- Learn how research findings are applied in shared decision making
- See how comparing treatments could reshape the health system
- Identify the evidence gaps in treating common conditions
- Understand how patient health care data is being used in research
- See how health literacy impacts patient outcomes
- Understand coming changes in clinical trials
Fellows will head home with an arsenal of resources they can use on deadline, and much more.
Candidates should be working journalists who qualify for AHCJ professional membership – please check here to see if you qualify. The ideal candidate will have several years of reporting experience, including some in health reporting.
