Laura Beil received a first-place award from the American Society of Journalists and Authors in the category “Reporting on a Significant Topic,” for a story called “Who Killed Chris Kyle?” that appeared in the December issue of Men’s Health.
Mollie Bloudoff-Indelicato has launched a career as a freelance reporter and editor. Previously a senior editor at Everyday Health, she has worked for National Geographic, Scientific American, Audubon Magazine, OnEarth Magazine and Climatewire.
Ibby Caputo of WGBH Radio and TV has been selected as a fellow by Knight Science Journalism at MIT. Caputo reports on the health of people and communities in and around the Greater Boston area. The fellows will study science, health, environment and technology at MIT during the 2014–15 academic year.
Mari Edlin, a freelance health care journalist since 1988, has been named editor of two new monthly publications – Population Health News and Healthcare Innovation News – published by Medical Policy Publishing LLC. She contributes regularly to Managed Healthcare Executive and Drug Topics, along with writing white papers and issue briefs for clients.
Pamela Fayerman, medical/health issues reporter for The Vancouver Sun, won an Excellence in Health Reporting award from the Canadian Medical Association for an explanatory feature and accompanying podcast about HPV and the disclosure by Michael Douglas that he got oral cancer through oral sex. She also won the Jack Webster Award for her series on fallopian tube removal; a controversial, emerging surgical paradigm for ovarian cancer prevention. The series was funded through a $20,000 award that Fayerman won from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
Charlie Fidelman of The Montreal Gazette is a finalist in the 65th National Newspaper Awards competition for health beat coverage. The winners will be announced on May 30.
