Integrated Health Interview Series

The Integrated Health Interview Series is a consistently-coded version of data from the U.S. National Health Interview Survey from 1963-present, including over 10,000 variables on health behaviors, health conditions, and health care access and use, and is available for free over the Internet.

IHIS data can be analyzed using an online tabulator or by making a customized data extract with the years and variables needed for a research project and using a statistical package. The IHIS project is funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health and is a cooperative effort involving researchers in the School of Public Health and the Minnesota Population Center at the University of Minnesota.
