This is a guest post by AHCJ board member Phil Galewitz, a senior correspondent with Kaiser Health News.

The AHCJ Washington, D.C., chapter Holiday Happy Hour event on Dec. 5 was attended by about 35 health journalists and two federal health communications officials: Peter Ashkenaz of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and Marty Kramer of the Health Resources and Services Administration.

Guests noshed on crackers, cheese and some fine wine and craft beer on the second-floor reception area of the Kaiser Family Foundation while holiday music played in the background. There was no formal program other than an opportunity for AHCJ members – new, old and potential – to gather to cheer the holiday.

Among news outlets that were represented: Kaiser Health News, Politico, NPR, Inside Health Policy, Modern Healthcare, CQ and the Huffington Post.
